| Catholic Understanding |

This was a response to a dear friend, concerning the previous post. I think some people got offended about the subject...but I don't think there is way around offenses when it comes to this. Somebody, somewhere is going to get offended at some point.
I just read some of the comments in shatteredfuture's post: community.livejournal.com/jesusfreaks/1303075.html
I didn't even realize the argument that was going on. So I think I can understand why some may have thought others in the community were bashing a certain denomination. I was just accused of being biased toward Sola Scriptura whatever that means. I'm not sure if that is good or bad. But I do have questions when it comes to the traditions of certain denominations. And I find it amazing how easily some get offended when hard questions are asked.
I don't think I need a Methodist understanding to understand a Methodist service. Nor a Baptist understanding for a Baptist service. I think that would go for Pentecostals, Charismatics, and Presbyterians.....even Seventh Day Advocates. This is because their traditions are based off of scripture. Most of what is taught I can look into my bible and find. Though there are differences in the interpretations and methods that keep every one divided. However, when it comes to the Catholic Church....I would need special understanding because much of what is taught cannot be found in scripture. (trust me I've looked...) And if I were to simply go by scripture it would seem that much of what is taught runs contrary.
It is one thing for traditions to flow from and line up with scripture. But it is my opinion that this particular denomination has created traditions contrary to scripture....but will then take scripture and twist it through legalism and interpretations until it backs and supports a tradition. However I could be wrong about this, but it is what I've seen thus far. If I have to choose between the scriptures and the traditions of men, I would choose scripture. And I would toss out any science, religious tradition, ordinance or custom that does not line up with the Word of God. I found out last year that this is unthinkable for most Catholics....as they seem to think that the traditions and scriptures are one and the same. They could never be at odds with one another. So this is why I have difficulty in believing that Catholics are Christians when they hold to beliefs that run contrary to the Word of God. I think it would be more accurate of me to say that there are Christians that are simply bound by Catholic religious traditions. This would be due to the absence of the Holy Spirit, as He sets one free from religious bondage. Anyway, sorry for the long speech. I just thought I should clarify myself better in light of recent posts.
Love and Blessings to all ^_^ |
